Every year, our MB.ioneers come together for a heart-warming tradition that embodies gratitude and unity: Tribesgiving.
The name blends "tribe," symbolising our mission to foster a tight-knit community of digital enthusiasts shaping the
digital future of Mercedes-Benz, with "Thanksgiving," representing the joy of sharing food and stories.
More than just a meal, this gathering celebrates culture and connection. It’s a moment when our diverse team brings
their distinctive flavours, traditions, and stories to the table. In this post, we explore how it all began, its
significance, and why it continues to be a cherished part of our company culture, with insights from those who know it
best.
The Origins of Tribesgiving: A Natural Fit for Mercedes-Benz.io
The idea for this celebration came about quite organically, as Débora recalls, reflecting on its alignment with the
season’s spirit.
Even though we don’t traditionally celebrate Thanksgiving in Portugal or Germany, we all feel the atmosphere of
gratitude around this time of year. So, we thought, why not bring that into Mercedes-Benz.io?
This simple yet meaningful concept was born from a desire to create a moment where we could all appreciate each other,
celebrate our achievements, and reflect on the positive impact we’re making together as a team. Débora states: “When we
first introduced it, there was curiosity about what it was all about. Once people understood the purpose behind it, they
joined in with so much joy and enthusiasm.”
Since then, it has grown into a beloved annual highlight, continually strengthened by the passion and participation of
our tribe.
A Feast of Inclusion and Collaboration
So, what does Tribesgiving represent for the company? For Andreia, the heart of this gathering lies in its
inclusivity and collaborative nature.
It’s an experience shaped by everyone, for everyone. Each dish on the table represents someone in the tribe, creating
a celebration that truly reflects the diversity of our team.
With 40 nationalities represented (and counting), food serves as a universal way to connect. “Meals are so much more
than just a time to eat. They’re moments to slow down, connect, and enjoy each other’s company. Tribesgiving builds on
that tradition,” says our Lisbon-based People Experience Partner. It also gives us the opportunity to pause, discover
the hidden talents within our community, and learn more about the people we work with daily.
Memorable Flavours and Personal Touches
Débora points out that Tribesgiving offers a chance for every MB.ioneer to share a piece of their home through food.
In the Berlin office, for instance, Portuguese classics like Bacalhau com Natas (Cod with Cream) or Arroz de Pato (Duck
Rice) from Vítor Mendes are perennial favourites, alongside the beloved Pastéis de Bacalhau (Codfish Cakes) crafted by
Office Manage Catarina Gonçalves. Joanna Tokarz-Haertig’s irresistible apple pie is another highlight, showcasing how
personal recipes can bring joy to everyone.
"Whether it’s a childhood recipe, a dish from another culture, or a creative twist on a classic, every plate tells a
story. And with each story told, we grow closer", Andreia emphasises. It’s this personal touch that makes everything
so meaningful.
Reflecting Our Core Values
While the food is a highlight, Tribesgiving transcends being a mere group.
“Once a year, our tribe gathers for a meal like no other", Andreia notes. "Everyone brings a dish to contribute —
something they’ve made, something they love, or something that reflects a piece of who they are.”
The real magic of Tribesgiving comes from the sense of community it fosters. It’s about more than just what’s on the
table — it’s about the conversations, the laughter, and the feeling of togetherness that comes with sharing something
special. “These dishes create a feast that’s as diverse and colourful as the people in our team,” Andreia continues.
Through the food, we express not only our heritage but also the joy of being together. Débora remarks: "This
celebration highlights behaviours like teamwork, empathy, and communication, reinforcing what makes our tribe strong”.
Tribesgiving for Future MB.ioneers
If our experts were to describe Tribesgiving to someone considering joining our team, it would be simple: it’s one of
the most special moments of the year.
“The entire tribe comes together in a spirit of gratitude and sharing. Everyone is invited to bring something that
represents their roots, creating a sense of home and belonging for all. It’s an experience where differences fade, and
connections deepen through the universal love language of food,” Débora explains.
Andreia adds: “Tribesgiving is a perfect example of what makes Mercedes-Benz.io so special. It’s not just about work —
it’s about the people who make it happen. This event shows how much we value creating moments to connect and appreciate
one another.”
Tribesgiving isn’t just a meal or a celebration. It’s a reflection of who we are as a company: a diverse, inclusive, and
collaborative tribe that values every individual’s unique story.
